  • Slightly advanced for 2005 but went well with truffle laden-egg, and then Poulet de Bresse. Showed some earthy qualities and rocky minerals with a medium full body. At Bistro de l'Hotel.

  • Drank over a lovely lunch at Goto. Thank goodness the food was good, because the wine was very mediocre, which is simply unacceptable for a Chablis Grand Cru in 2005. Golden yellow in colour. Nice enough nose - a bit restrained, but with nice touches of oyster shells, chalk, smoky flint, fresh lime, green apples, white peach and a touch of butter. The palate was quite diastrous though - watery, imbalanced, with sweet, rather candied white and yellow fruit washed through with lime and iodine notes, petering out in a warmish sticky finish. It got a little better with time, with a bit more balance, a bit more integration and a bit more flinty character coming out, but this never quite pulled itself together. The food really helped, but that only made me wonder how nice a good Chablis would have been with the fine cuisine.
