I've had a few Koonunga Hills from this era. The 2002 Cab Merlot (under screw cap) was still good. The 96, 98 and 00 cab shiraz (under cork) all still good. Unfortunately, this one was no good. Quite brown in colour, well beyond a bit of polite brickishness. Smell of rasin, currant and date. Tasted almost like port. Often with wine of this age, there is variable between bottles. Hopefully you have more luck.

I recently “found” this bottle in a downstairs bar I have … who knows where it came from. After doing a bit of research about it, I realized it was probably not expensive and long overdue – so I quickly did the right thing. It appeared a bit lighter than what I would have expected; with a very blackberry spicey nose. It was a rocky start but over time (less than 30 mins) it settled down quite nicely. It kept my attention and ended up gentle on the palate. I kept going, which wasn’t my intention for a weekday night, but then again, being a Red Sox fan this evening required a modest distraction. All in all, a pleasant surprise.

Fine wine for the money. Way better than boring old yellow label. Blueberry and black pepper, long finish right on the money. May 2006 Wine Spec has rating. Come on gringo was yours corked?

Mature fruit, faintly herbaceous with smooth tannin finish. Still drinking beautifully.

Okay wine but, imo, there are much better choices.
