  • Paired with braised short ribs with plum tomatoes and whole grain mustard mashed potatoes. Aged well, dry, rich, mellow.

  • Last one of these....so sad to have to drink, but OMG!!!! still had lively fruit, however that dark crimson/brick color. Flavor profile was quite mature. tobacco, tar, some fennel, with a minerality reminiscent of european selections. Truly wish I had more......

  • This wine is a pleasing version of a Cali Bordeaux-style blend. A fair amount of interest and complexity still going on, given that it's a 13 year old vintage. Cork crumbled like with the other bottles we have opened from this vintage. Last bottle in our cellar: gave its all for its country. Gonna wait on drinking the '05's we are cellaring.

  • ONE NOTE: this is the second bottle of this wine that I've pulled from our cellar, and BOTH of them had corks that disintegrated. At least we were able to pull the cork on the first bottle. This latest bottle saw its cork crumble and a big piece fall into the bottle. At least the seal was intact and it appeared that the wine had not suffered. I would be interested in hearing if any CT members have had this experience. NOW, as to the wine: really quite good for a 2000 multi-vineyard cuvee. Deep and dark color edge to edge. Almost opaque, in a PS sort of way. The bouquet had some strong black and blue fruits, with some evergreen and christmas spices, and just a bit of tar. The taste was of a classic, but somewhat understated, Bordeaux blend that's been cellared well for its entire life. There also was an almost sweet coating from the oak treatment. But the real effect was of an elegant and a touch elderly (for Napa) red blend. I don't think it's going to go down hill any time soon. On the other hand, no more improvement on the horizon. Indeed, I won't be waiting much longer before I drink our last bottle. BTW the 2005 we have in our cellar is better, and it has nothing to do with the difference in age.

  • Very dark, brick like look......cloudy with deposits. Decanted and filtered. Aromas of dark dried fruit with cassis. Tasted surprisingly alive. Previous comments stated this wine was in it's prime two years ago.......prime has continued for this very well constructed wine. One of these left, and will look forward to a similar result.
