Cherry cola, cedar, tobacco, and mushrooms all show on the nose. Cranberry and cherry show on the palate. Tannins are fully resolved. Acid is high and overtaking the fruit—this bottle is nearing the end of its arc.

Wow, one of the best wines I've sampled from Renaissance. As common, this has plenty of sediment and a crumbing cork (use Ah-so). Two hour decant. Subdued violet nose. Secondary red fruits, dried cherry, plum, leather. Medium body and smooth. Balanced with good acidity. Fine grained tannins, long finish. In a nice place with years yet ahead. Pleasure to drink. Glad I have more.

This bottle showed extremely well drinking impeccably now 4-days open, as well as on day-1. No need to recap my own previous note, and the excellent TN's from folks like James Kim's detailed breakdown. I'm just glad to have a few more of these '99 CP bottles, as they seem to be showing consistently great. If I had room and were drinking more regularly, I'm certain I'd seek out more of these.

Decanted off sediment for 3.5h then back into bottle. Now 5h after decant. Beautiful red and black berry aromas from first pour. Now, lovely aromas of leather, cedar, tobacco, tart cherries, herbs, bark and a bit of earth. Lovely palate of dried cherries, herbs, leather, tobacco, bark and mild tannins on midpalate. Fantastic acids give life and juiciness to the palate. Nice lingering finish. Complex, beautifully balanced and drinking so well.
From a magnum decanted for several hours prior to serving (throwing off a massive amount of sediment), this is still an enormously tannic, low-alcohol monster of a wine that was tasty yet remained rather unyielding through the course of a meal. The dominant flavors seem to be sour cherry and menthol. This is quite different from most Cali cabs. If served blind I might have guessed a barolo or maybe a young Dunn (no kidding). If I had to be critical, it was somewhat one-dimensional. I suspect it is not even at midlife.
