Very nice. Pear and anise indeed; good concentration and balance with quite decent length. Not all that chablis like to me, but certainly devoid of Cali flab.

Tablas Creek is all about Rhone varietals and , thus, the name " Anthithesis" for its single varietal Chardonay. Served it last night at a party and the main consumer of it swore it was from Burgandy and much, much more expensive than it is. You will definitely notice the minerals and lack of oak. There is pear and citrus in the nose. Tablas Creek recommends holding this vintage a bit longer, but I found the taste just right now. There is enough butter taste here to recognize it as a chardonay, but not too much. For those "anything but chardonnay" advocates, try this one and for chard lovers, recognize this has the Burgandy origins written all over it and it might not be what you expect until you remmeber the name.

Tablas Creek / Denner / Hoage; 6/20/2009-6/21/2009 (Templeton, CA): More "chablis like" on the palate than on the nose, but still not really close to the real thing. God minerality, no length. Marketed as "unwooded" but NFW (careful reading says "full malo in neutral oak barrel" - whatever neutral oak is... - and "gentle oak" - gentle oak ain't what it used to be). ($23)
