  • I wish that I had the other 5 bottles that I bought years ago. this was really good. Soft, balanced, and interesting all at the same time. Drink up.

  • Upon opening, I thought this was over the hill but with an hour of air this tightened up with the fruit actually going from a bit pruney to pretty well defined blackberry and black cherry. There's a nice undercurrent of wood that lends a smoked meat aspect here with the primary flavors being that brushy Rhone valley grenache and syrah. I've had Chateauneufs with more complexity and that were more representative of the region but this was very pleasing indeed. Drink tonight if you've got it.

  • The nose has held up nicely since the last time I had this wine six months ago. Gone is the "peppery" middle and finish. The wine is certainly drinking well. Peaking? The wine is able to compliment a meal now, without overpowering. I have 5 bottles left and will have one in the next 3 months.

  • This is the 6th bottle of a case a bought a while ago. The wine is really coming together. The mistake I made was not having it with a dinner prepared for it. Next time I will have a roast, some kind of gravy or cream based suace, and roasted root vegetables. It really needs food. The wine starts at the nose with nice fruit. As it hits the mouth you taste pepper, which increases to the end. I'm hoping that the finish mellows with some more age.

  • Drinking very well right now. Slightly faded redish brownish color. Pleasant aromas of dark red fruit, spice and and a faint bit of leather/tobacco (after reading the tasting notes the "black tea" comment is the perfect description the spicy/leathery smell). Great finish and balance. Enjoyed it with an assortment of cheeses and a simple beef stroganoff.

    Tasting Notes:
This wine is a medium to dark garnet color in the glass with a spicy nose of green and black peppercorns, black tea, and a hint of cassis and red berries. In the mouth it is powerful and a little raw for a Chateauneuf, with primary flavors of cassis, black raspberries, sandalwood, and a bit of the black tea as it tapers to a very long finish. The wine has an excellent mouthfeel and wonderful balance to it, all the while managing to be a bit more burly than one might expect.
    Food Pairing:
This is a pretty intense wine that could be served with any kind of roast or grilled red meats. I served it at a wine dinner with a smoky roast squab and olives over a bed of wild mushrooms and greens.
    Overall Score: 9/9.5
