  • Deep, golden yellow color. Very developed and attractive, but also somewhat one-dimensional nose with rich peachy fruit, some beeswax and a little bit of petrol. The wine is quite light-bodied, very racy and developed on the palate with complex flavors of spicy, savory honey character, saline mineral tang, tart green apples, some beeswax, a little bit of petrol and a hint of stony minerality. The wine is very high in acidity, which makes the wine feel remarkably structured and tightly-knit for its age. The finish is very long, rich and complex with developed, bone-dry flavors of nuttiness, some mature creamy - even buttery - character, saline tang, stony minerality, some exotic spice, a little bit of tart green apples, a little bit of orange marmalade and a touch of petrol.

I was really surprised how remarkably race, crisp and focused this wine was. It doesn't have that unctuous richness that Rieslings develop with age, but it might be that this vintage just needs even more time to get there - after all, there is some developed creaminess and honeyed character there. The wine just might be developing at a glacial pace, explaining why this wine feels such a youngster at this age. Lovely stuff, but feels like it could use some food if opened now - it is lovely on its own, but might feel even to racy for the duration of more than one glass. Very lovely.
