It's an honest Chateauneuf du Pape, with all the usual features of the appelation The alcool comes first, but when tasted the next day, the balance is back.

14.5% alcohol. Superb long dense cork with no wine penetration at all. Unfortunately, it is all downhill from here. Port-like notes on the nose and in the mouth, similar to what you might expect in a Grenache-based wine on day two, but this is day one, and straight out of the bottle! There won't be a day two in the glass for sure. I have seen people complaining about the 2007 vintage in Southern Rhône, but it is my first negative experience. Either a compromised bottle or the coming of age of this particular vintage. Disappointing.

14.5% alcohol. Superb cork, one of the best that I have ever seen; no wine penetration whatsoever. Dark colour with an orangey tinge at the edge of the rim. The nose is rich and ripe, but not overripe in any way; fresh ripe plums, but no prunes. The mouth is very satisfying with excellent acidity to balance the undoubted richness of the wine. The alcohol does not protrude; in fact, there is delicacy to be found here. A success and a repeat purchase.
