  • Medium yellow in color, this medium bodied wine is a beauty. Very refined and complex with notes of flowers, hay, iced tea, minerals and slate.Tart acidity is in a beautiful balance with the sugar. Medium to long on the finish. A wine that remains at peak and will probably do so for many more years. 50+13+13+8.5+8.5 = 93

  • Dinner sans Manlin (Lampreia, Seattle): I was fortunate to save a glass of this until the end of the evening. When we first opened, the nose was very reticent and the palate was fairly simple. It showed the basic apple juice notes but I expected more.

After 2 hours it had become a stunning. wine. The nose was one of the best I have ever smelled. Now 12 hours later, I can smell the cinammon, smoke, and fruit cake elements. It was simply awesome. The palate was not up to the nose, but it was quite good. It still had the apple juice note, but now it showed more spice and minerality. What a wonderful wine.

  • Dinner without Scott Manlin (Seattle, WA): Wow, unreal showing. This was a bit of a slow burn. Mineral and licorice greet you at first. At first this is far more primary than the 1976 and seems a little clipped on the finish. However, with a couple of hours this simply explodes. Gorgeous acidity frames a wine of great poise and presence, loaded with licorice and spice, fantastic structure and vibrancy. Yum! As glorious as the 1976 is, the complexity and vibrancy of this wine is another step beyond.

  • Dinner at Zely & Ritz with Steve & Barb. AP # 12-84. Light to mid yellow in color and a perfect cork. Could it really be 22 years old? As with previous bottles, this showed a beautiful juxtaposition of frest fruit flavors and aged characteristics. Light aromas of petrol mixed with peaches, limes, iced tea and minerals in this light to medium bodied wine. Some apparent sweetness on the rich palate and a really nice match to the array of seafood appetizers we ordered ( scallop ceviche, tuna carpaccio, poached shrimp ). 50+13+13+8.5+8.5 = 93

  • AP #12-84. These Christoffel-Prum wines are some of the real unsung heroes of German wines. This wine was light yellow in color with great balance of tart acidity and unctuous sweetness. Concentrated yet delicate and refined this wine was certainly ready but still has many years ahead of it.Green apples, white peaches, candied fruits, starfruit and iced tea make up the flavor profile for this medium bodied wine. A long, persistent finish closes things out. Great with grilled lobster tails. Yum! 50+12+12+8.5+8.5 = 91.
