HA! We just had this bottle at Troquet Boston summer sale too... Always a sucker for old bottles. I found this as decanted having and very intriguing nose of vine and thin fruit that kept pulling me in. With 30 minutes of breathing fruit started to open, similar to Pinot than a sweet Zin, and then tannins started to become evident. I found nothing I disliked, aside from perhaps a second bottle to be able to unravel this vintage some more. A nice little time capsule.

85 is my attempt to be objective - it doesn't compare to younger wines in fruit, but it is not offensive, and very respectable.
Wow - just had this at Troquet on South in Boston. Great color (very little orange/oxidation color) and structure (mellow tanins, acidity was still there).
Nose definitely showed age, but was neutral to positive - a little creosote/smokey
Fruit was around a 3-4 out of 10 in strength, still there, but waning. Notes of Cassis.
We all thought it was more comparable to a pinot noir, than a jammy zin.
A very surprising bottle - great for wine geeks!
