  • Consistent with previous notes from 16 months ago, though this has reached what seems to be a nice peak window. The heavy alcohol/heat I detected in the past has faded. Silky smooth and deeply concentrated through the palate and into the licorice-packed finish, this is perfectly balanced and still has good stuffing. Should be drinking well through 2020. One of the best CdP's I have ever enjoyed. Phenomenal QPR.

  • Opened and decanted 2.5 hours ahead of a garlic and herb pork roast with root veggies. Dark purple color with a red/violet hue. Concentrated nose brings a lovely bouquet of candied raspberries, strawberries, and especially blackberries - a nice red and black fruit combo - backed up by a potent black liquor cassis, garrigue, mint, and a powerful menthol herb mix. The palate is square, big on entry but medium on exit, bringing black Manhattan cherries, more ripe raspberries, only hints of dark fruit, and nice touches of black licorice and candied strawberries into the finish, which is dry, refined, and lengthy. Overall, drinking superbly now. Still a little on the hot side for my taste, but then again, it's been awhile since I've had a cDP and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Drink now - 2022.

  • Had out to dinner with a sampling of grilled chicken salad, mixed veggies, and light meatloaf. Opened about an hour before drinking and we were wowed by the great floral aromatics on the nose with red licorice, cloves, spices, and hints of garrigue, followed by a lush, full-bodied palate that brought candied strawberries, raspberries, herbs, more licorice, and waves of tangy fruit juices. There was still a hard edge on the finish, especially without food, but I think this one is entering it's prime drinking window. This is a BIG wine that still fits into a rustic size medium. Drink now through 2020.
