  • Decanted a couple hours.
Showing only a little better than the last access in 2014 but still not a $100 wine let alone a $100 Malbec unfortunately.
Darker spicy black cherries, touches of earth and a slightly Bordeaux-esque tobacco element, but getting alcohol on the nose still and the nose as a whole is fairly one dimensional especially in terms of fruit.
The palate sports a lot of acid and tannin and also sadly shows the same one dark red fruit note with some spice and alcohol.
There is richness that a lot will enjoy but the finish lacks some balance I'd expect for the coin and therefore, for me, this remains a pass at the price point.

  • CORAVIN ACCESS #1.
Hmmm...I'm not sure if this bottle was temperature abused at some point, was just off or maybe....I don't know, but it wasn't right.
One dimensional boring red fruit on the nose (like a $10 blended wine). Some off-putting oxidative elements as well as old leather and lots of heat.
The palate is also one note. Boring hot red fruit. What is going on here? Let it sit in the glass for a couple hours and nothing changed.
Short unfocused finish with bitter tannins - just a big pass. Boring and a huge overall disappointment. I would never in a million years think this is a $100+ wine.
I'm not going to score this round - something was wrong. While it didn't come across as flawed this has to be an off bottle.
I suppose I will revisit this in a bunch of months to a year and see if it changes.

  • Very jammie. Powerful but very balanced. No strong tannins

(Nico by Luca Malbec, Altos de Mendoza) This world-class red combines the concentration, structure, polish, and longevity of a top-notch Bordeaux with immediately appealing ripe fruit. Argentine Malbec grown in these high altitudes doesn't get jammy or sweet; it ripens slowly over a long growing season, so the fruit is full yet not in your face, and the color and tannins are beautifully developed. I love the interplay of blueberry and violets with the expensive, toasty oak, but most of all I love the balance. Decanting is recommended for aeration. Hot Picks
