Unfortunately the wine was tired, not sour, corked or Brett, just fading away. We first encountered Moulin Pey Labrie at Lucien Legrand using Patricia Wells Paris guide books. Remember when you took a guide book or two, no laptop? Anyway, then found some along with the Lariveau in Annapolis MD. This bottle was just to old. Rats.

Rustic style. Took about an hour to open up in the decanter. Fresh lavender, mint, and cherry blossoms on the nose. Prunes, dark cherries, mocha, tobacco, dried leather, and blackberries on the palate. The finish still brings thick tannins. Linear and reasonably balanced, this will be best over the next few years. Drink 2019-2022. Technical score: 89. Enjoyment score: 88.

Pencil lead, tobacco, prunes, dark cherry. Well-integrated tannins. Acidity balanced nicely with beef short ribs. Bottle cellared at 50F and drinking very well right now.

Medium brick red. Leather, tobacco and some oxidation on the nose. Little or no merlot fruit, some dark cherry. Short finish. On sale at Kermit Lynch and disappointing.

Maybe on the downward side, but still enjoyable, as its not sweet or oaky. Went well with salmon and lentils.
