  • Nice mature burgundy colour. Lots of sweet red fruit on the nose with plenty of mushroom and truffle notes too.
Light, bright and remarkably fresh on the palate. Lovely integrated fruit, very soft and open. But really fills the mouth too. Beautifully balanced with a very pleasing acidity and the residues of some sandy tannins.
This is pretty much à point, though there's no sign of fading, so it would probably hold happily until the end of the decade, I think. Finishes well and has very good length. Perhaps a little one dimensional and missing a bit of complexity. But still a treat.

  • Good colour - bright and clear mature pinot with no bricking. Sweet strawberry and cherry fruit on the nose, with a few high-toned notes and some freshly chopped button mushrooms. Bright, fresh, almost vibrant palate, showing little sign of its 28 years. Beautifully balanced with good acidity. But just a little lacking in depth and interest. Very pleasant finish, with very good length.

  • Fully mature colour, with a hint of bricking. On the nose, there are sweet red fruits, black pepper, some mushroomy notes, and a hint of truffles. Previous bottles have seemed a little high-toned, but not this one. Very good palate. Very obviously completely mature, but nice sweet fruit, good acidity and a hint of peppery spice. Very rounded; finishes beautifully and with enormous length.

  • Fully mature colour - quite pale, with some orangey/brickish hints. On the nose, this is clearly a very advanced bottle, certainly a lot more so than the last bottle. Very high-toned nose with sweet peppery strawberries, furniture polish and a few hints of grapefruit peel. Light, very, very fresh (i.e. read forward acidity). Sweetish red fruit with mushroom notes and some citrus freshness. This bottle is fully mature today, and not even one for keeping till tomorrow. Fortunately there has been a bit of bottle variation - variation in maturity - so I'm hoping that the remaining bottles won't be completely shot when I come to open them.

  • Dinner at Ray's: Welcome to mushrooms, truffles, blood and a bit of game. Lovely palate. A gorgeous mature Santenay. Best bottle of this so far.
