  D+0h: cork comes out intact with a normal corkscrew, a tiny, tiny bit of deposit in the filter and a little bit in the bottle, smells of raspberry D+5,5h: colour between dark as ink and purple red, smells of blackberry, raspberry and in the background eucalyptus, smooth in the mouth, has a little bit of residual sugar without tasting sweet, medium body, in the mouth blackberry and a little bit of raspberry, in the aftertaste blackberry, smoke and at the end acidity, good length (30 sec), good red wine, at the moment needs at least 5h in the decanter (after 4 hours it was still tannic in the aftertaste), so quite young despite its age, surely has many more years to go.

  As this was part of a bigger tasting of Portuguese reds, the note is shorter than usual:
  Grapes Varieties: Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
  Very dark, smells of a Bordeaux wine with forest ground, really good,
  will get a bottle to try again at home.

  Decanted for 1 hour.
  This is an unoaked blend of Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah. Unfortunately, Quinta da Covela shut down its production in 2010 and is out of the business. It's nice on the nose with mint, eucalyptus and red berries with some alcohol scents. On the palate, this was a bit grippy with pronounced astringency and medium aftertaste. I'd say this is a good everyday wine, but the astringency is a bit too much to my palate. It's not bad wine at all, but I just don't see enough reasons to buy another bottle. 86+
