I am surprised by the negative impressions on this wine. So much so that I am sheepish to offer mine.
I plucked this out of my cellar because it was 2 years out of the CellarTracker suggested window. “Let's get rid of it”, I thought. And especially because I had done a recent tasting of Domain de la Cote, Evening Land, and Sea Smoke, I could provide a reliable comparison to Pinot Noirs that were highly respected on both the terrior and anti-terrior perspective.
I found the Beringer to be young and still developing. I felt the suggested drinking window to be conservative to a fault. I finally decided that I should have left it sit in the cellar longer.
Is it possible that all the folks who contributed here were somehow influenced by the suggested window and ended up drinking it too young? I feel that all of the negative comments could apply to a wine that was drunk before its time.
I could not find an ABV on the label, but I am guessing 14.5. Strong, but not crazy.
I felt that the Beringer was more Sea Smoke-like. It had a strong, pronounced nose
Nose: Aromatic, sour cherry, black berry fruit, a little smoke, earth a touch of leather, and a touch of oak? I sniffed it over and over and liked it every time over the course of the evening.
Palate The flavor was almost overpowering. Not overpowering, but almost. It had a desirable amount of acid. The finish was long enough, not epic 8-20 sec?.
Conclusion: I am calling this wine “delicious”.
I would like to give this wine an 89, maybe more, especially since I feel it has some aging potential. I think the 2013 end of window is off the mark. I would say to all of those who have this in their cellar, give it a second chance, and maybe wait a little before doing that.

Time to drink this bottle. Dark ruby hue, no real nose (perhaps a little alcohol), dark raspberry, thin, nothing special nor memorable. Candidly, glad I got this out of my cellar-- time to have something else;>

Bottle past its prime-- not overly enjoyable to drink.

Not so great. Dusty and a little bitter. Used for cooking.
