This wine is very light in color with nose of cola and tea with a whiff of barnyard. Not tremendously complex but nice. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the wine. On the palate it was thin. Started with a hint of sweetness and then fell completely apart. Basically hollow and tasteless. No tannins. Seems this wine has passed its peak. Interestingly there are not a lot of secondary characteristics you may see in an aged wine, only faded fruit.
Wine Group Valentine's Day Dinner hosted by Aniko who asked for 1996 Red Burgundy, we opened 4 of them plus a 1976 with dinner. Nose of smoked bacon, cigar box, tea leaves, black cherry fruit, with hints of barnyard and cinnamon, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, long. long finish. My #1 and Group #1.
