  • A wine from a monopole 1er Cru clos that has been in the Chartron family since 1917. Barrel fermentation, aged in oak pièces for 12 months. 13,5% alcohol. I'm always very iffy opening older white Burgs because of the possibility of premox.

Pale peachy yellow color. Very beautiful, nuanced and fragrant nose with no signs of premox whatsoever; aromas of sweet cream, some honeyed stone fruits, a little bit of spicy wood, a hint of peanut butter and a touch of browned butter. The wine is full-bodied and somewhat developed on the palate with balanced acidity, bright sense of minerality and very complex, layered flavors of peaches and slightly dried pineapples, some apple jam, a little bit of browned butter, light honeyed character, a hint of flint and smoke and a touch of cream. The finish is extremely long and tremendously complex with very nuanced, layered flavors of butter, cream and ghee, almost overripe peaches, red apples, some apricot jam, a little bit of spicy wood and a light touch of toasted - almost charred - bread.

A simply stunning white Burgundy that is a textbook example of why one should age these wines. There are no signs of premox whatsoever, but instead the wine has reached its apogee of stunning richness, complexity and opulence. The wine feels relatively big and quite round, yet it doesn't come across as heavy nor flabby because of its balanced acidity and bright, almost trebly minerality, balancing the weight and richness wonderfully. So very lovely. Tremendous value at only 45€, very highly recommended.

  • Colour looks fresh. It has some mushroom and honey on the nose along with a little candied peach. It is rich and heady with just a hint of fruit rind bitterness to the finish.
