  • Got this bottle through the winery's wine club (when we used to belong) for $22.40 and drank before dinner with Italian lunchmeats, cheeses, and Arthur's homemade tapenade. This is a blend of 50% Barbera and 50% Sangiovese with 14.9% alcohol. The nose is very fruity with a suggestion of earth and oak. On the palate, the wine is surprisingly fruity with a very smooth, well-balanced finish. We were expecting a more heavy, earthy, smoky, tannic wine; this wine is light-bodied, typically Opolo (meaning the oak (new, we're assuming) is prevalent, the finish is smooth and lingering, and the fruit's pure essence is accentuated from the get-go), and much more New World than we would have imagined. If you like easy-to-drink fruity reds, THIS is your Italian blend. If you like more traditional Italian reds (HEAVY, tannic, earthy, etc.), look elsewhere. But overall, this is a nice, delicious red blend. It didn't pair terribly well with our Italian starters (we thought a typical Italian red would go well with the lunchmeats and cheeses), but we believe this wine would go very well with garlic chicken, grilled steaks, or even lamb. This is a fruity and yummy blend.
