  • One of my random inexpensive WineBid purchases and I am expecting this to be over the hill.

Screw cap closure. Medium dark ruby-purple with no signs of bricking. Complex and layered nose. Decomposing leaves, cherries, mushrooms, cigar box, a hint of tobacco, savory herbs, and a dash of black pepper. Palate is light bodied, medium-high acidity, and just wonderful. Dried cherries, tart lemons, underripe and juicy strawberries all dance on my tongue. Fully resolved tannins bring in a bit of leather and cocoa to the mix. Smooth herbal, black pepper, granite, and lemon finish that holds on. The finish is spot on perfect.

I had little to no expectations of this wine given the hammer price of $15. This wine is at the end of the drinking window. I suspect the screw cap closure helped it last a bit longer. I suspect I would have absolutely loved this about 5 years ago.

  • Beautiful Pinot with a nose and taste that brought us back to Central Otago. A lovely wine.

  • Its complex aromatics of pine needle sap, blood plum, liqueur cherry, camphor and smoked meats suggest a wine of large scale. It is dense and plush in the mouth with a super sweet, concentrated core of fruit. It is decidedly dark and exotic, studded with ginger, aniseed and beef stock. It is very long with sweet, spherical tannins and a nice kiss of mineral acidity.
