Community Tasting Notes (3)

  • {screwcap, 10%} Yellow. Some age; smells very cedary and oaky; deceptively so, obviously. Smoked and lanolin-tinged; the palate is quite light, with only medium acidity, rather nebulous flavours; more stoney and slate-like (or really granite-like) than obviously fruity. Maybe just some classic semillon hay/straw flavours, but it's a bit greasy and heavier in texture than you expect from the nose. Medium length flavour; this is decent aging Hunter sem without really scaling the heights. Probably best before it's ten.

  • {screwcap, 10%} Pale yellow. Developing nose now, with some brown-straw overtones to the citrus and lanolin aromas. The palate is bone dry, still acidic but in a dusty, almost phenolic way; there are muted citrus and straw flavours. Somehow there's a generosty - almost a fatness you don't expect of semillon of such low alcohol and at such a young age. It thus verges on the medium-bodied, with a medium-long finish dominated by a waxy sort of acidity . The screwcap is doing a fine job, but I still think it'll be at its best before it's seven years old.

  • {screwcap, 10%, A$16} Light lemon yellow. Developing aromas of grass & lanolin, sopay suds and even a touch of sweat. Smells OK, though! Tastes light, fresh and spritzy, with barely perceptable structure along the palate, and just a lingering freshness on the tongue, with the cool clarity of a deoderant commercial. Should develop nicely, but probably over the shorter term.
