  • Enjoyable. Chewy, full. Sweeter, but not sweet.

  • So either my preferences have changed, or the wine improved with more time in the bottle. This time I did get some red fruit aromas and distinctive black pepper. I took a sip, and there was a slight edge to the tannin so the rest of the glass was run through a vinturi which took care of that. Much like my previous experiences, I still wouldn't describe it as fruity. Unlike previous experiences, the alcohol heat seems to have faded; I don't know why that would be, but I really didn't get any heat this time around. Tannins were definitely present but were well integrated and the acidity was at a nice level. Pleasantly, I couldn't detect anything I could attribute to oak.

I still wouldn't choose this as a drink on it's own option, but it was quite good paired with steak and acorn squash. I think if I were to purchase more in the future (which I might) I'd give it a couple of years before opening.

  • Very fruit forward. Bold, sweet and lingering spice. Excellent

  • Dark fruits on the nose, plum, black cherry. Enjoyable, slightly jammy.

  • Pop and poured a small amount. I still did not get much fruit on the nose, and there was noticeable alcohol. First sips did have some fruit, but I wouldn't describe it as fruity, the alcohol heat was there, as was some moderate tannins, and a nice earthy spice. This being the second bottle I've had, I knew what to expect and planned the meal more accordingly.

The successive pours were run through a vinturi.

This wine pairs well with beef and cheese. When paired with cheese the alcohol gets lost, and to my palate, allowed more subtlety to come through. The main course of prime rib steak, mashed potatoes, and heirloom beets was mostly a winning combination. The sweetness of the beets didn't do the wine any favors since it seemed to bring out the dusty herbaceous quality, but the prime rib steak and potatoes really did prove to be a nice complement.

It wouldn't be a wine I would particularly enjoy on it's own, but paired with the right foods, it is quite enjoyable.

I'm not sure it's the best you can do at it's price point, but it's also not obscenely overpriced.
