From Coravin, tasted shortly after pouring. Color: deep violet center to pink rose edges Nose: vibrant aromatic nose, red licorice, violets, sweet in a floral way, red cherry Palate: full-bodied, red licorice, cherry, and garrigue dominate the palate, but there is more of an earthy, slightly smoky-garrigue mid-palate than the nose would suggest. The alcohol is elevated and noticeable, but doesn't fully overwhelm the fruit core. Medium to light acidity, with light tannins that are very fine and fully integrated.
This was a pleasant surprise! I was expecting a more advanced bottle based on previous notes. Instead, I found I vibrant fruit core with sufficient structure remaining to continue holding the wine together for another 1-2 years. The alcohol is elevated, but the fruit remains strong enough to prevent the alcohol levels from overpowering. I don't find any raisiny notes or excessive sweetness, which I would expect if this bottle had been over the hill. Drink soon, but still in its late prime! 92+

Time to drink. This was still very enjoyable but is probably a tad bit past it’s peak. Still very drinkable and enjoyable. Fruit has mellowed into a less big Syrah. Hint of licorice and red/dark fruit.

I loved the 2008 bottle of this wine, but the 2007 - which we had the same night - was even better. Red fruit, garrigue, herbs but also tar and licorice on the finish, with some sweetness as well. It was a great pairing with our buffalo ribeye steaks (a true medium-rare) but not as good with the buffalo strip steak. Drank a little younger than the 2008 vintage.
Great qpr for $22 / bottle on close-out.
Drink now but has time, too. Too bad this is no longer made :(

Like a bottle of high quality fruit juice, a blend of cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, and plum, this wine unfortunately falls pretty short outside of the realm of overwhelming juiciness. It is powerful, strong, and full bodied, but there is little complexity, and the flavors are too straight forward. I look for more in my wine. On the second day of drinking, the fruity esters have fallen back a bit, and it's gained a bit of leather and soil, however those were entirely missing at opening + decanting and I rate based on that.

Blueberry and dark fruit nose upon opening. Deep purple color. Dark fruit, spice, and a rich, juicy mouthfeel. Very enjoyable.
