Floral and earthy with lemon confit and lemon tart. Very rich and powerful with nearly Grand Cru density, just slightly more mature than I'd consider ideal at this age, but better than my typical experience from Maltroye of this era.

Drank the 04 and 08 side by side. Both of these were terrific. The 04 was singing straight out of the bottle. The 08 needed coaxing, but we gave it time and patience was rewarded. I had never heard of this specific vineyard, and it was killer. Seek this out in any vintage.

Chateau de Maltroye Cellar Visit and Tasting (Chassagne-Montrachet): Tasting at Chateau. Often one of my white burgundy favorites and the 2008 didn't fail me. Started very linear and precise with lemon, lemon peel and orange peel on nose. Lemon, apple and pear on palate with some ripe stone fruit in deep background. Mouth coating fruit and spice. Great intensity. Long finish comes back to classic form with less ripe fruit, more acidity, minerality. This really shows its old vine character.
