Quite big and healthy with rich cocoa and dark chocolate notes, followed by some blackberry and thick plummy notes on the palate. This is a spicy and richly extracted Merlot (one guest thought it a pricey DCV Zin).
I like tannin but the tannins in this 7 year old wine still seem primary and on the rough side of the spectrum. Also, the finish strikes me as somewhat hot.

Popped and poured, but this needed significant air time. First taste after about 20 minutes showed bitter tannins still prevalent. After about 90 minutes of air time, this was much better with the tannins almost integrated and some blackberry fruit with a touch of smoke. This was the worst bottle I have had to date. 90 points only for the last glass after all the air time, but bitter tannins still were noticeable - not sure if this was just a bad bottle.

Popped and poured. Very little fruit showing with a bitter finish. Pumped it up and was quite a bit better the second night with more fruit but a chalky finish. Closed it again and was even better on the third night with nice tasty fruit finally coming through. Lesson learned? Decant the heck out of this wine -- high maintenance.

Drinking very nicely now. Not a big fruit bomb, buy a smooth drinking Merlot
