I got this on the same deal that NeuroWine did, if only such deals were still out there! Just fantastic and very Burgundy on the nose, with no sign of the excessive polish he has a reputation for in his more expensive “200% New Oak” Grand Cru bottlings. Spice, earth, and just very expressive. Solid A there. A bit more reserved on the palate. Solid B there. Spectacular deal at the pre-prison PC price, and just a classic Burgundy value.

Every so often I have a red Burgundy that reminds me how incredible the region is, even at the more humble levels. This is such a bottle. Purchased almost 10 years ago from PC (before the dude went to prison) for $15 (!). Deep violet with rose margins. Muted nose of black cherry, mushrooms, and violets. In the mouth, lovely layers of both red and black fruits, iron, and forest floor with a lovely acidic bright berry finish. Texture is what makes this so special with a Volnay-esque silkiness I was not expecting. Medium finish. This wine is really lovely and it is hard to imagine finding anything comparable anywhere in the world for less than 5x what I paid. I have some 06 Laurent Beaune Greves that I am now really looking forward to. I only wish I had another bottle of this.

Very good now, open but still time to go.
Very fine, aromatic complexity but lacks of concentration. 2003 or 2002 were better.
