  • SIA Wine Week; 10/15/2018-10/19/2018 (Singapore Airlines): pale garnet; acidic, and quite structured and powerful, with plums, Kirsch, nutmeg, tea, chocolate, chacuterie; excellent!

  • I am not impressed - the nose is not strong both tannins and acidity are medium and weill integrated - but the wine is lacking a clear fruit palette and some character.

  • not a very strong nose - medium on acidity and tannins - good integration - relative weak on the fruit palette some raspberry and black cherries - the wine is lacking finesse and do not have a strong aftertaste

  • Opened for approximately 1 hour before pouring. I had a small taste at first, to make sure it didn't have any flaws. After an hour there were some good points but mostly a disappointment. Ripe black cherry, raspberry, campfire, and leathery notes were pleasant, but they were out of balance, skewing towards the too-ripe end of the spectrum. On the palate we all felt the wine was harsh and bitter, as well as being out of balance. It lacked finesse and the flavors weren't well integrated. Over the course of about three hours it didn't really improve and we felt it began to show some brett contamination. The finish was tart and lip-puckering, showing sweaty horse, plum skin, and cherries.

  • After Beau's note I pulled this from offsite storage and opened it with some Swedish Wallenburger for dinner. At opening there was a definite funk on the nose that made me suspect the bottle was off, and the initial taste was quite sour. Over the course of the evening as the other aromatics opened up the dark fruit and spice came forward a bit but the animal character never really blew off, pointing strongly to brett. Not bad enough to dump but did not make for a very enjoyable wine, but hard to have high expectations for $20 1er Cru Burg.

My wife did not enjoy this bottle at all and I am thinking I should sample through other bottles from this producer to see if it is systemic or just an aberration. I have an '05 Pommard Les Charmots Cuvée Signature to try next.
