What the heck, i opened this the next day (to compare with the 03 Charbonniere Hautes Brusquieres). This one is overall more restrained and perhaps not as multilayered. The nose on the HB is definitely more expressive. There is certain purity to this one that I like, however. I am not completely sure but I am thinking this is 100% grenache. Overall, both are superb and have aged far better than one might imagine for such a hot year in such a warm region. Still, I don't think I will ever drift back to CdP (except perhaps Beaucastel) and I will probably drink up or sell my remaining stock over the next few years and not look back. Nice to have these few bottles as a lasting impression of a different time of wine buying in my life.

Popped and poured (after being on it's feet for a month or so) this does come our as incredibly fresh - like the Mourre de Perdrix of the same vintage. I am tempted to think, that this domaine made some of the best wines in this very tricky vintage. the wine is smooth, almost cool, with more locale than the MdP), garrigue, sweet grenache and some backbone. It will keep, but it seems to be singing right now.

(Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes) Lovely ripe cherry and framboise nose; tasty, tight but yummy kirsch and plum palate with mineral notes; elegant medium finish

Extremely delicate taste aroma. Very smooth to the palate with a calming after taste. I suggest that it is near or just past its peak

Opened up after about 45 minutes of decanting. Nice fruit on the nose and open. Long in the mid-palate. Sweet cherry and cassis. Great QPR.
