High acid dinner (Rieslings, Riojas, Madeiras, etc) (Milford, CT): This was a re-taste from a bottle opened a few months ago. Still fresh, with classic dried fruits, burnt sugar and citrus notes... but combined with a very unconventional herbal/spearmint streak. Very good length and complexity, but not the blockbuster I was expecting. Interesting wine.

Great company, very short notes: What a treat. Bottle (53) opened about 2 months. Somewhat medicinal menthol, mint, sour citrus. Very rich. Quite an experience.

Rieslings, Riojas, and old fortified wines at Marco's (Milford, CT): A real treat, thanks Marco. A rather high toned fragrance with minty and herbal notes (someone says 'wintergreen') framing complex flavours of old wood, figs, spice, and candied citrus peel, moderately sweet on the palate and very elegant with a polished, glossy palate presence and bright acids beneath.

An odd nose that showed an almost peppermint/spearmint-like quality. This carried through on the palate. Lifted, high-toned and overall a pleasant wine, but that minty/menthol note was a bit distracting. Atypical and quirky and not very Madeira-like, yet I still found joy in drinking it.
