  • Jim and Stacy's 20th Wedding Anniversary (New Jersey, USA): Unfortunately my last bottle of this is oxidized just enough to be unenjoyable. It had some interesting caramel notes and nuttiness but on the whole not good enough to serve.

  • From magnum in my cellar since purchase from the winery just after release. This was absolutely exquisite. Utterly delicious with huge complexity and layers of flavors and aromas. It was a lovely bright medium golden yellow color. Just a whiff of oxidation on the nose and palate. Many different tropical fruits ranging from pineapple to coconut and mango, then a layer of creme brûlée, caramel and vanilla. Bright acidity still apparent and a mineral backbone adds further complexity. The oak influence is visible in the flavor profile but mostly integrated. Finish is long and luxurious. This is a wine that has never been disappointing and continues to develop nicely in large format. A joy to drink...I wish it could be still made this way but the ripeness in recent vintages has made this a bit more alcoholic.

  • In my cellar since release and decanted briefly before tasting. This was a gorgeous medium golden yellow color with an astounding nose... Fragrant, slightly oaky with more vanilla and cream, a little smokey/reduced perhaps and soaring with poached pear. Palate has moderate acidity and freshness beyond its years and only a hint of oxidation. Very unctuous with pears, butterscotch, caramel and sweet red apple and a chewy texture. The finish is very long and after an hour+ of air I got a distinct orange creamsicle sensation on the finish that morphed into tangerine later. Absolutely delicious and every bit the equal of the 2010 Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne we had last weekend. A delight to drink. I had half expected this to be heavily oxidized and too far gone but I was quite pleasantly surprised especially in the 750ml format, of which I have one more as well as 2 Magnums.

  • 2001 Chardonnay Magnum Tasting (New Jersey): From Magnum. Notes were taken with wines blinded. This wine was the oldest looking of the 6 with a medium to dark golden yellow, but certainly no noticible oxidation. On the nose I got creme Brûlée, wet stones and tropical fruit. Very rich mouth feel, less bright than the others but still not at all "flabby". Buttery, with tropical fruit, some minerals. Complex, balanced and engaging over the hour or so we drank up the Chards. On my notes I did indicate "WOW"...to me this was head and shoulders above the rest on this night. But, honestly I have have had many different vintages of Talbott Sleepy Hollow over the years in magnums through Imperials and I have never been disappointed...It just seems to age beautifully and this one may be at peak right now.

  • Gorgeous wine, from magnum. Lovely golden color. Nose of pear hazelnut and butter with a touch of oak. Complex and mouth filling. Flavors are round and reflect the nose with a rich mouth feel. Went great with a variety of artisanal cheeses. Still plenty of life left if cellared well in the large format.
