Deep garnet with some brown tinge. The nose tobacco, leather, muted red fruit, florals, balsamic. The palate has lingering red fruit/cherry, tobacco, leather, black pepper, balsamic on the finish. Took about 1 hour to really open up, but lovely when it did. I think this is likely at the end of its peak.

Excellent BDM. Decanted for about 90 minutes. Tannins seem completely resolved after 90 minutes of air. Fruit is getting on in age, this bottle displaying predominantly older dark strawberry, leather, and dank/overripe red fruit notes along with a myriad of secondary characteristics, and rather lacking in more youthful jovial fruit seen with younger BDMs. I’m glad I waited on this bottle…. It was spectacular with a cream-based bacon, mushroom, and pea pasta dish. Was particularly wonderful with sautéed mushrooms, a pairing I would highly recommend. Based on this bottle, I’d say drink now.

The oak has become so much better integrated since the last bottle three years ago. Harmonious, but with some chew, and depth. Should drink at this level for another 5-7 years, at least. 14,0% abv. recommended+
Poured into a water pitcher and placed in the fridge for 2 hours - served later at ~ 63F with a wild boar & pappardelle dish; was a solid match. The oak was much less intrusive this go around, that said, I still am left wanting more varietal character in the wine. Decent acidity, average flavors, maybe it just needs to be buried in the cellar for another 8-10 years; I've two left, and that's what I'll do with them because as it stands now, it's drinkable - I suppose - but really not interesting on any level.
