Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 90 points

  • 85 on first night and 92 on the 2nd attempt of the remaining portion on 4th night. Opened to strong American oak nose, strong and un-refined tannin, acidity misplaced, presence of Cab fruits but not very structured, oak-juice, unbalanced and left everyone disappointed - disgusted.

2nd attempt 3 nights later, left in decanter in cellar, balanced now but no depth and complexity, drinking pleasantly like a Bordeaux now, warrants a good score for its showing on 2nd try. Still nowhere near the pleasant experience I had with the 2011 vintage, which drank like a Pignan. Perhaps captured its evolution in wine-making? Average out the 2 scores to 88. Really a 85-92

  • Had this with a wonderful multiple-course Chinese dinner at the Jockey Club in Beijing. It's a classic Bordeaux blend that can stand comparison with mid-level French counterparts. Pleasant aromas of dark berries and tobacco, lovely balance of fruit and new oak, with light tannins, medium to dark ruby color, very clean on the palette. After living in Beijing for more than a year, this is head and shoulders the best Chinese wine I have had.
