  • Never could get past the smell. I'm not experienced enough to know if it was corked or just big terroir. It had that strong French terroir which never faded but I have come to understand the French style and this seemd very different it ways I am yet unable to express. As a result it stiffled the fruit from coming out and expressing itself. It felt as if there was a very good Pinot underneath the smell but we could never get to it. There were moments when the smell subsided and you could get nice sweet fruit, soft tannins and acidity and it was rather nice. Then, within moments the smell returned and there was nothing. Possibly a bad bottle.

WOW, I need to stand corrected. While this never became a great wine it did improve greatly over yesterday. Most of the funk smell dissipated and the fruit began to rise. MUCH BETTER wine the second day.

  • Popped and poured from Ken's cellar. A really pleasant surprise. Hadn't had any Byron Pinot in years. Very bright, pure Pinot. Notes of sweet tarts, pomegranate, root beer and raspberry. Drank beautifully right out of the gate.
