A Whole Lotta Syrahs (and more) at the Girl and the Fig; 3/4/2014-3/6/2014 (The Girl and the Fig): This seemed to be a divisive wine at the table. It was apparently a one off wine. While I liked it, I couldn't help but compare it to the Saxum JBV of 07 which are amazing. There is also some Hearstone Vineyard in here. The nose is warm with black raspberries, blueberries and floral notes. Very pretty. On the palate, I got a bit of alcohol and heat. Perhaps I just had too much wine at that point. There are some nice black raspberries as well. Its outstanding for sure, but when I nit-pick it lacks that deftness that I love about JBV fruit.

Deep purple color, smooth, not too spicy and right amount of 'pepper' with deep, smooth dark cherry/berry with consistent fruit with consensual seamless finish.

Really developing nicely. Dark purple with a floral nose of violets and dried roses. Throwing a good amount of sediment at this point. On the palate, there are dark fruits with blackberry and blueberries leading to crushed rock, graphite, wet asphalt, and finishing with a cracked black pepper and pastise and licorice finish. Really melding together well. It's worth noting that this fruit is from the same vineyard and vintage as Saxum's wine of the year, James Berry Vineyard. Really nice

As recommended, opened this 15 hours before drinking. By the time we got to it, it was beautiful.
