  • Tasted alongside two other Pommard-Rugiens, including '05 Girardin and '95 Boillot, this was my favorite of the trio. This has a remarkable red berry and mineral-laden nose, with cranberry, pomegranate and red currant flavors, and a bit of a savory herbal edge with some notes of tobacco leaf and shoe leather. Quite tart in a good way, this is a nervy and complex burgundy that is drinking very well right now.

  • Earth and strong wood on initial tasting after 90 minutes decanting. Took a full 3 hours to truly open. When it did, it was outstanding. Lots of life still to give with layered flavors of medium body and finish. Would definitely drink another bottle if we had one on hand.

  • Red fruit (cherry), nice spice, slight earth/ Minerality. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable.

  • Very prominent nose. Loaded with charred wood/embers/smoke with notes of sour fruits, almost lambic-ish without the Brettanomyces. Very high-toned, sour cherries, a bit of rubber and spice. Slightly vegetal, like rhubarb? Medium-bodied and fairly tannic with medium-high acidity. Tangy red and black fruits, more charred wood/campfire. This is holding up quite well, but should be consumed in the near term. There are some weird, wild flavors here! 91 df 9.1

  • Drank over 3 days. This wine needs air, but when it gets what it needs it is clearly outstanding. This is a meaty, earthy, even vegetal Pommard, as it should, and has nice balance and quite full body. It was best and most complex on day 3, so it should have years of upside still left.
