Bought for $5 on Winebid. Dirty bottle with base neck fill. A very pleasant surprise!
Deep color with garnet rim.
Interesting nose hard to describe. A bit shy with baked red fruits and earth/mushroom background notes.
Lively on the palate with good fruit acid balance and nicely integrated but not entirely resolved tannins. Clean, bright flavors of pomegranate, plum, and cherries. Nice long finish with some earth notes. No heat or alcohol notes - probably around 12%. They don't make 'em like this anymore, which is a real pity...

This, an '80 Sebastiani Sonoma Proprietor's Reserve. I have a few of these, and the first was completely dead, leading me to believe this would be the same. A rough bottle, with a sticky dry cork, but pretty good fill. Dark and inviting. A nice coffee, tar, dusty construction paper nose, easing into a full throttle wine of coffee, fruit, black tar, beautiful balance, bitters, cedar, just a bit of tannic grip. A nice touch of pine in the finish. Actually young.
Not much Bordeaux analog; maybe Mission? This is good. Again, not all that subtle, but nothing like modern Napa.
Such a shame.
