  • This just jumps out of the glass. Heavy on the oak nose, berries on the palate and a long lingering finish. Leaves a slight bitterness at the end, but that's easily remedied by taking another sip!

  • Coffee and dark chocolate all over the place. The oak was a bit much on this one and seemed to overpower a lot of the other characteristics.

  • Really great and came together nicely on the second night. Coffee grounds and cocoa covered berries. with savory herbs.

  • This wine was very good, for what it was. It was in oak for 40 months, so I can't really say it was over oaked. I mean I knew it saw 40 months in oak so what do you really expect. If you like this style of wine then this is excellent. We definitely enjoyed this wine and it's nuances. Toffee on the nose and after two hours of decanting the alcohol blew off and there were notes of coffee, mocha, espresso, dark chocolate, darker fruit and a luscious full bodied mouthfeel. Great wine!

    COLOR: Garnet-purple, almost opaque
NOTE: Ruthie's bottle, and she decanted it for about 6 hours. 16.5% ABV, but nary a hint of heat to be found. This was aged for 40 months in 70% new French! If you pop-and-pour be sure to run it through the Vinturi to burn off some of the alcohol. All that being said, it was like a complete blueberry pie, with the blueberry compote in the center, the vanilla, baking spice and toasted crust all around it from start to finish. It didn't have the opulence of my favorite Syrahs but that's the only thing holding the score back a couple of points. This was great with the Umami burgers as well as the chocolate ganache cake afterward. It was the WOTN for me (about 10 were tasted) and beat out my 04 Galatrona.

    DECANT: 6 hours.
