This continues my recent bad run with 74 Barolos (note, this was not stood upright before opening). Initially mouth-puckeringly acidic, needed 4hrs in a decanter to become civilized, when it suddenly became much sweeter. After 5hrs some acetone was noticable, but this then receded after a further hour. Optimum would have been a double-decant and 12hr slow-ox. Eventually, this wasn't the lost cause I feared. The VA receded to acceptable levels, sweetness over-took the acidity, and there was plenty of (all) tertiary interest in the form of leather and black cardamom. Sweetness without discernible fruit characteristics. Nose only of wet leaves. Drinkable, but hard-work and far from compelling. Bottle was from Alba, with perfect fill and (original) cork. Avoid. 80-82pts

Cellar raiding at Jeff's: Eh. Rather tired, and starting to fade into the point where it just tastes like nondescript, old red wine, with a touch of tarry savouriness on the nose being the only thing that makes this distinguishable as a Barolo.
