  • Our bottle did not have this brown label. It had the purple label as shown for the '05, but there was no vintage date as obvious on the 05 or mysterious 'ID' code as some have suggested. Anyway, it was left at my home 5 or 6 years ago by a friend and god knows how long he'd had it around. Pretty awful: asphalt and watermelon candy.

  • This is actually not a NV at all but instead has a cryptic vintage id: "The vintage for this wine is indicated by the last two digits in the lot number: L 12-A05. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015." -Antonio Galloni- Wine Advocate. This is just below the "vino da tavola" on the label. I see a couple of cellar tracker photos show a label without this designation, so perhaps they make both?

The wine is deep blackish purple. Nose is predominately plum. Fairly complex taste; blackberry, bitter cherry, tobacco, very clean and smooth. Pleasant sweetness balances a dry finish and that bitter cherry. A hint of black pepper and meat still present. Drinking well now; perhaps slightly past peak as a certain weakness is apparent just before a medium dry finish.

  • I really liked this; I didn't put a score in the box, as I felt like I didn't have a frame of reference for this wine, but just on my enjoyment, I'd give it a 90.
This came out of my garagiste mystery case and I had no idea what it was until I came here; would never have guessed syrah, at least on opening. It actually had the light yet juicy and refreshing mouthfeel of good cru beaujolais (tasted different though). After at least an hour's air, it developed some weight and I could possibly have identified it as syrah, but that could also be attributed to having looked it up by then!

  • Definitely less barn-yardy than it once was. Mellowed considerably, but also lost a lot of tannin and structure in the process.

  • Unremarkable, but not as bad as others made it out tone.
