Poured a slightly rusty color. Initially a cool nose of blackberries and some blueberry but then evolving with air to mature notes of tobacco and earth. Zero Brett. On the palate lots of well worn leather. Elegent, extended finish. A really beautiful wine at peak.

This bottle should have been flawed. Opening it up about an hour before dinner, there was a lot of gunk under the capsule, and the cork fell into the wine when I attempted to put the worm into the cork. I decanted immediately, and let it sit for about an hour. This was drunk on Christmas eve with my sister-in-laws Danish roast ducks, stewed cabbage and caramelized potatoes. The wine was a little pruny at first, but by the last half of the bottle was a classic, if not slightly tame, CdP. A marvelous Christmas Eve wine.

Pre-'90 Chateauneuf in Seattle (Kaspars): On the palate, brown sugar and sweet fruit. A ripe, but one-dimensional wine.
