  • Showing some age on the rim. This cab wafts a captivating aroma which is noticed from a foot away, yet is still subtle. Mostly dark fruit on the nose, with enough grip to keep it interesting.
Tannic but without much fruit, I don't think I'd cellar these too much longer as the fruit will evaporate and I don't see the tannins integrating much more. Drink within the next few years.

  • Tight at the pop. Needs an hour, at least. Wouldn't be able to ID as a Napa cab... I've had too many Stag's Leap Cabs, this is much more Sonoma in the nose and especially in the mouth. Good balance. This is a very well made Cab.

  • Just spent three days with this wine. Nothing is overly impressive, but all is very steady. The wine is not a blockbuster but has no apparent flaws and is 'correct' in all regards. I concur with Joelz that this tastes more like Alexander Valley than Napa. The nose is almost entirely Alexander Valley. On the palate there is a little of the Napa softness at the front, then the glorious Alexander Valley reveals itself. The wine offers agreeable nuance at the front, middle, and back. There is nice spice, some dark plum and dark berries and a dry rasberry compote twist. Overall, close to a proto-typical Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, but with an enjoyable Napa twist. The finish is good. About 40-45 seconds on the 1st and 2nd days and about 25-30 on the third. There is no harshness at any point. No astringent characteristics. Got it for less than half retail. At that price it's a steal. Even full retail would still qualify it as a very good value for technically a Napa wine. Tasted it against a Hall Napa Valley of the same vintage. The front palate of the Hall is better. Otherwise, this wine beat the Hall soundly, especially in back and finish.

  • Funny how reviews of this can differ. My impression of this wine was that it was hugely tannic and still too young to drink. After initially popping and pouring a glass, decanted the remainder of the bottle and then aerated my glass by pouring back and forth between two glasses. This helped a LOT. Bold nose with brooding dark fruits and something almost tropical. I've experienced a similar nose on other mountain fruit cabs like this. A bit overpowering initially but enjoyable after it settled down a little. Solid core of dark fruits. More of a medium-bodied style but good body across the palate and solid structure for aging IMO. I have one additional bottle and I think I'll hold it for 3-4 years before trying again.

  • Tastes more like Sonoma than Napa cabernet. Nice earthiness on the nose, licorice and black fruit with a long finish. Not a ton of body for the long haul but drinks great right now.
