I admit I was surprised that this was even drinkable given its age (heading into its 22nd year). It's more than drinkable - it's perfectly good. Cool and kind of short at first, but perfectly good tasting, it started to open up within 15 minutes and began to have more length. It became a little fiery with alcohol and had a bit of a sour smell. You could smell the earth in it though; maybe my mind was suggestive, but it sure smelled like the earth around Santa Barbara, where it came from. The terroir was quite present. Anyway, it is not a super great Pinot and maybe it never was to begin with, but it turned out that cellaring it for so long did no harm and may have given it some intrigue. I like it.
