Yes, the fruit has faded but this was an excellent wine with the rib-eye steak at Diavola in Geyserville. Wines this old (and at 13% alc) don't drink so well on their own but are meant for food. A birth-year wine for my son's girlfriend that we drank alongside a Cuvaison 1986 Cab (my son's birth year). Both were good but I think this melded better with the food.

This was the last bottle of a case and a half of this grape juice I purchased years ago. Still drinking nicely, but not much more life left to it. It was the right time to finish it off.

Cedar, chocolate, bell pepper, mushroom, forestal nose that is really lovely. Spicy, dry, dusty palate of cracked pepper, mature wood, dry currant. Fruit has faded into the background but there is much structure and secondary bourbon tones still going on. Drink now.

1987 Tasting of 6 Cabernet Sauvignons. Was closed at first but opened to a spicy, meaty nose with a hint of herbs, medium cherry, weedy fruit taste with lots of soft tannin, probably will develop like the 1985, cellar for 3 years. My #3.
