Sweet cherry fruit, some chocolate and a hint of green pepper. Soft, easy-going palate. Very nice, but not as distinguished as other examples of this I have had...

Perfect time to drink. Chili powder, plum and tobacco, some wild strawberry still in the mix. Color is starting to gain a brown hint but still vibrant red violet.

Had this at a dinner with a 2009 Chateau Montelena Cabernet and another 2006 California Cab (I'm drawing a blank right now---it was Chalk Hill). It was decided by the table that the Sullivan Merlot should be the last wine of the meal, due to how "big" it was compared to the young Cabs.
This probably would have been a bit more fruit forward had it been consumed a couple years earlier, but was still hearty and enjoyable.
Sullivan's wines are delicious.

Heart wine. Great complexity with a nice long finish. Black cherry and curant. With hints of cedar and cocoa. Definitely give it some time to breath. Very full bodied for a merlot.

Opened 2 hrs prior to first taste. Nose: dark cherry, dark berries, chocolate cedar. Palate: dusty chocolate dark cherries and smokey cedar, faint minty peppermint tannins. After two more hours in decanter the palate is showing sweeter cherries and smokey sweet plums. Not a monster fruit bomb - a very nice, more subtle Sullivan "big red."
