  • It's funny - this is now my third tasting note on this wine - my old handle was Caldwell. So if you're reading this, you're getting a very one-sided opinion! I think that I'm going to rate this 100 just to blow out the curve!

Seriously, I've been drinking wine for going on 20 years now and have been studious about it. Picked these bottles up out of the Thiese catalog back when I read every issue. We don't drink sweet wines very often, but I've always thought fondly of Auslese level Rieslings. In this case, the 500 mL presentation is a perfect lunchtime-wine to have with lunch. Who knew? You open a bottle on Saturday for lunch and get our your smallish glasses and have a nifty pour with your vegetables/leftovers/etc. Then you put the bottle in the fridge. Sunday, you open the fridge - woho! there's an open bottle of wine in there! - and you have the second glass with Sunday lunch. The wine has moved a little bit over the course of the overnight in the fridge, but it's a ray of sunshine that you get to enjoy a sip at a time. It's easy to plan meals around big Cabs or other wines, but the ability to sneak in a little bit of love like this on a Sunday afternoon... Really special. It's lots of fun to pull out an auction purchase or a giant Gevrey GC that you've been sitting on for years... But the second glasses out of this little 500 mL bottle on a Sunday is one of those rare treats that's in some ways much more special and a much more intimate way to enjoy the wine hobby.

  • Served with dessert with the Insleys. Fruit forward, rich sweet and acid mingling harmoniously; grapefruit and apricot flavors - neither of which Rovani found, but I couldn't get his tropicals, etc. Very easy to enjoy. I'll buy more.

  • Very thick and syrupy, subdued nose that was more orange and caramel than citrus. Extremely sweet with a bracing and not entirely pleasant minerality. I'd guess that this wine is closed down hard and needs to be revisted in many years' time. I left the
