  • Compared to Ian d'Agata's review for vinous from May 2017 our bottle seemed more advanced with quite some amber in the colour and a pronounced caramel and dried fruit aspect. However, this did not distract from the wine's quality and pleasure. As d'Agata pointed out, this is a Beerenauslese with an impeccable balance of sugar and refreshing acidity, full of flavour but weightless, which literally dances on the taste buds. The only critique being a lack of minerality. Based on our bottle the wine is at peak and should be drunk up.

  • From a pristine half bottle, this wine had a deep gold center and clear rims. The high- intensity nose put forth pear, lemon, apple, kiwi, and minerals.

In the mouth, this wine had a 3 dimensional texture, opulent fruit, and great, crisp acidity. The length was stunning.

This bottle had more than a little resemblance to a Sauterne, yet it was clearly German. While this is drinking now, it will easily remain great for 20+ years and may even get more complex.

  • Wow! This is one of the best german auslese or beerenauslese I've had, save for the Prum 1990 LGK, AP24. Incredibly heavy sweet botrytis fruit, but with a fierce acidity cleaning everything up in the end. The nose is to die for, caramel, pineapple, glue, crepes suzette, and much more. On the palate it starts out with a sweet and heavy attack, on the mid palate it burns with sugar and concentrated fruit. The finish is all about acidity, so separated and fantastic it is hard to describe. Old school beerenauslese not to be found in, i.e. Mosel or most other places apart from Johannisberg. One can understand this is the birthplace of Riesling...but oh so expensive today!
