Yes, this wine has seen better days. Described as “flat” at thanksgiving. It is just old, not any real fruit. Drink up if you like old burgundies. I will pick and chose from the couple of bottles left.

Certainly past peak but enjoyable. Light fruity aroma. Almost a Smokey bacon experience aroma (and who doesn’t like bacon!) very smooth, and still enjoyable. Nice light fruit. Totally dissolved tannins. Several that I left too long but my wife and I will enjoy. Good heritage makes the commune wine last 33 years - perfect for a low key grill night with a filet and bernaise!

A couple of nights ago I had a 1990 Mommessin bottling from Savigny-les-Beaune. It was good enough, but what a pleasure this Aloxe-Corton was. The second it went into the decanter aromas of spice, earth and fruit presented themselves without delay. Over the course of several hours the wine only got stronger in its intensity, but never crossed a line into off-putting aggressiveness. A truly lovely wine not only for its age, but for its obvious pleasure.
