  • Just a great wine. 2008 was a fantastic year. This wine is still going strong. Loads of fruit still, especially on the palate. The nose is dominant with Willamette funk. Forest floor and funky, soft aromas make this perfect as a food wine. This is wonderful. I had the first half with a Coravin but popped the cork with the second half and it improved over an hour. Just a brilliant wine.

  • Retail $50. I bought a couple of bottles of this wine way back in 2010 when I was out in the Willamette for the first time for the International Pinot Noir Celebration. I rented a car and did a mini-Miles recreation, visiting some of the pillars of the Willamette wine scene: Penner-Ash, Patricia Greene, Bergström, Adelsheim, I could go on... One of the best, though, was a tiny outpost in Newberg that sourced from all over the Valley, Brick House. I doubt that the winery is at the top of any a pseudo-aficionado's list of *must-sees* but for those "in-the-know" (I received my intel second-hand), Brick House is a (*the*?) mover and shaker in the Valley. Thus, I bought a few bottles and forgot about them...until now. I guess this is on the dark side of Pinot in the glass, if only slightly so. Whoa. Just taking in the aromas that waft beyond the glass is worthy of a whoa or seven. Holy cow. Blackberry, black cherry, plum, violet, yowza. The palate is a deviation from the nose in the sense that it *exceeds* the close to the euphoric nose if that is even possible. Subtle, but nuanced fruit, with multiple layers of expression. Whoa. This wine celebrates the Burgundian heritage of the variety while embracing the New World (i.e., Oregonian) capabilities of the grape. Whoa. Again. I realize that few can experience a 12-year-old Oregonian wine, but when it is made this well? It encourages *all* toat least try. Outstanding. 95. thedrunkencyclist.com

  • Whole-cluster pinot from an own-rooted plot planted in 1990. This was a bona fide holy-crap bottle. It was good ten years ago but I was wholly unprepared for the league it's playing in now; in fact, I was mildly afraid that the somewhat disjointed personality it had on release would turn even more disjointed. Instead it is about as harmonious as pinot noir can be. There's an aromatic burst of ripe fruit from the pop of the cork but within a minute or two it's tamed itself into a mellow, brick-complexioned, semi-mature burgundian profile. The first sip brings that on with a texture that's pure butter and silk. Some snappy whole cluster signatures emerge after a couple of hours but I was surprised not to see them sooner and bolder. It seems to have digested most of its green, though the leftovers the next day turn strongly evocative of forestal characteristics halfway between Old World sous bois and PNW pines.

  • Brick House does it right! This luxurious Pinot Noir delivers mind-bending purity, textures, and range. The wine glides over the palate, with silky finesse. Still quite young, and likely to last through 2038+. Sensational!

  • I haven't come across the Boulder Block cuvee before. This is so pure, bright and elegant. Nose of elevated red cherry with spice. The palate is above all else, silky. Medium weight red fruits have intense fruit flavor and just glide across the palate. Still very youthful with plenty of structure. Some upside from here.
