$99 at Wegman’s Charlottesville summer 2020. Totally agree with Paul S when he said the palate is more charming than compelling. Light oxidation, but when tasted blind still 20 years older than anyone guessed.

Lunch with Sasi (Summer Pavilion, Ritz Carlton, Singapore): Clearly aged, this had some of the charm of an old Burgundy, but is just starting to flag. The nose was exactly what you would expect from something of its age - a touch woody, spice and herb, a little bit of dried strawberries and earth. Attractive in a musky, mature way. The palate was more charming than compelling. Tannins and acidity still formed a good structure for its cherry and strawberry notes, but it lacked a bit of punch and weight. Otherwise, pleasant and charming, with a nice ring of Savigby spice, earth and herb towards the finish. Nice, but time to drink.

Browny red, as you might expect. Fruit a little faded, but surprisingly fresh, undertones of undergrowth, long finish. Hard to put the flavours into words, but I really enjoyed it

In good shape for its age. Cherries and wood wrapped in sous bois and dusT. I guess it’s age is what makes this wine interesting

Popped and poured. Lovely aromas of cherries, cedar and undergrowth. Beautiful, bright acidity, and the fruit is holding up. Lovely. Drink any time.
