Mayfair tasting group does Syrah (Denver, CO): Slow-O 3 hours, served blind. Full ruby toward plum color, no sign of age. Raw hamburger, butterscotch, faint herbs, cocoa powder and dill. Several guessed French oak was used. Full(-) body, with average acidity, medium(-) finish. Ultimately, fairly monolithic, but had flecks of personality. At $20, a good, but not great, value. The nose is much more interesting than the palate. Not even a trace of brett, thankfully. My #7, group #9. I guessed Cali, 2006. Drink thru 2015, 14,0% abv, score: B

Dark cherry aromas. Smoke. Some SA typicity. Some, but not tones and that is good. This bottle has been open 12 hours now, so it would show if it were too much, IMO. M+ aromatic intensity. Palate shows really nice along then same lines. Good acid. All in all a very good showing from SA at $20.

Very berry bright - surprisingly so for a wine supposedly going over. Easy to dismiss as every day but actually very rounded.

A solid syrah. Lots of mint and eucalyptus with complex aromatics and a juicy palate of red fruits and pomegranate.
